Attorney Ben Crump Hired By Family Of Man Shot By Miami Police

A high-profile civil rights attorney is representing the family of a man who was shot by police in Miami and left paralyzed.

Donald Armstrong's family has hired Ben Crump after police shot Armstrong six times last month. The MPD says he was holding a sharp object and Tasing didn't work.

He's charged with aggravated assault on police, but Crump said yesterday the video does not support the charge. He says Armstrong was suffering from a mental health episode, and he lifted up his shirt to show he wasn't carrying a gun.

After Armstrong was Tased, Crump says he fell forward and was shot at least nine times. Crump adds several of the shots were fired after Armstrong was on the ground, and that clearly indicates excessive force by the officers.

Armstrong is due in court today, and Crump says he'll then hold a news conference demanding these bogus charges be dropped.
